Music for TV, Film and Games

Steve H composes original scores for TV, Films and Games...

"...a  score is most effective when it doesn't force an obvious cliche' emotion on a scene, rather it stealthily interacts with the medium allowing the viewers to feel what they are impelled to feel as dictated by the actors, the writing/story and the visuals..."

About Steve H

EMMY nominee, songwriter and musical adventurer, Steve Horelick currently composes original soundtracks for the large and small screen from his facility, Steve H Music, and in the state-of-the-art studios at the Manhattan Producers Alliance. His credits include more than 350 TV episodes, encompassing such award- winning productions as PBS's “Reading Rainbow”, “Shining Time Station” and “The Puzzle Place.” His film scores for HBO's baseball documentary "When It Was a Game" earned him his first EMMY nomination.

In addition to commercial credits for top brands such as Volkswagen, Ford, and IBM, Steve has received recognition from the New York Film Festival, GRAMMY Awards, and multiple award nods from the advertising industry. In addition to dozens of original TV scores for the likes of Lifetime, “Monsters”, Dr. Ruth (really!!), “People Magazine on TV” and ABC After School specials, he’s also been the composer/arranger/lyricist go-to guy for a long list of elite artists including Bob James, George Duke, John McLaughlin and the Paul Winter Consort, Chaka Khan, Bobby McFerrin, Larry Coryel, and Peabo Bryson.

Steve’s passion for exploring new musical frontiers sparked his escape to NYC from his native Pittsburgh to compose and perform “avant-garde” electronic music on his custom-made Buchla Series 200 synthesizer. With his critically acclaimed "garage band" the, Electronic Art Ensemble, he performed “controlled noise” to astonished audiences in the US and Canada.

These experiments proved to be the stepping stone to some unexpected places, including the then-fledgling show educational show, “Reading Rainbow”. Twenty years later, “Reading Rainbow”, opening as always with Steve’s theme song, is one of the most adult-watched children's shows ever produced – and with Steve's original music and songs backing every episode, “Reading Rainbow” has won the EMMY for Outstanding Children's Series 8 out of the last 12 years.

But Steve doesn’t just heart music. He’s also got a head for the business, educational, and innovative opportunities that surround it. An Apple Certified Trainer specializing in Apple’s Logic Pro music/audio production software, Steve goes coast to coast leading training seminars and certifying new Logic professionals. His Logic Pro video tutorials are currently being distributed by macProVideo.com.
